GREATER LONDON AREA
In London, as in much of the country, the amount of art teaching of any kind is diminishing in State funded schools; we think that organisations such as the Arts Society can contribute in a small way to begin to change this, to encourage creativity and interest.
The Greater London Area Societies have within their own neighbourhood examples of state schools and other organisations where little visual art and music are being taught and where there is a need for funds…
-- for materials or equipment,
--for a visiting artist, artists or musicians or visiting organisations
--for a trip to a gallery,
--for teachers to be helped with curriculum ideas,
--for helping senior students produce a portfolio,
--for helping disadvantaged children in arts activities
--the activities could include a range of “arts”.
--you may have lots of other ideas.
The GLA will support all 25 of the GLA Arts Societies
-- to help children have some understanding of the arts, to encourage creativity and to awake interest,
--and also, to promote the Arts Society and our education and grant giving activities.
The Area offers a grant to each of our 25 societies of £500. Each society is asked to try to match fund this amount, and the ‘wealthier’ ones could add even more!! For societies with insufficient funds to do projects, the £500 will be enough to do something practical.
Each Society is asked to identify a local State school or organisation in need and work with them to produce an arts project The Arts Society support centre are interested in this and will engage in helping us, or individual societies to produce an article for the Review magazine. Societies may have press or social media contacts to further promote this.
Method
After discussion with their committee each society is asked to source their project.
Then apply to the area committee using the area grant form https://gla.theartssociety.org/apply-grant
The area committee will make arrangements to pay the money.
The Society will ensure that the project was carried out and arrange for some photographs to be taken (with all relevant permissions) and let us have a brief report on the event. The Society may be able to use the event on their own web-site
